My two nieces love to have adventures, and this quilt was made after one of these days out. 
The pieced flowers depict Pohutukawa flowers, from the magnificent coastal trees which grow in my area. 
These trees bloom each summer around Christmas, and are known as New Zealand Christmas trees.
